The first jazz-at-heart Summer School took place over four days in August 2011 – led by Matt Roberts, graduate of Leeds College of Music Jazz course and from Trinity College in London. He is twice winner of the Dankworth Prize for composition, has played with many great names and is an accomplished and experienced teacher and workshop leader – check out his website.
It was a great success, introducing a range of instrumentalists (on violin, flute, trumpet, guitar, piano – and recorder!) to some of the delights of jazz improvisation. The final evening took the form of a jam session/gig in the café at HEART and there were a good number of regular participants who came and played or listened as well as the summer school participants.
Participants were extremely complimentary about Matt’s teaching and we held a follow-up summer school in 2012!
See ‘Recent Posts’ for details of the next Summer School!
